After Bet’s death in 1967 Greet continued the bar. With heavy heart at first. She dreaded the task. Until the closure of the bar in 1982 due to drug problems in the area she had a successful period of 15 years of running the place. Greet drew her own crowd. She also was an entertainer. She was a great storyteller. Her act singing a “Pikketanussie” while playing with a wooden monk that was ‘dressed’ in a wooden barrel, hiding his enormous penis, which would be revealed and dipped into a beer was hilarious. She could sing too. She knew very old Amsterdam folk songs by heart.
